What is Edge coupler?
A device that couples light by butting an optical fiber against the edge facet of the chip. An inverse taper that narrows the waveguide tip expands the optical mode to match the fiber. It offers low loss over a wide wavelength range but needs facet preparation and is hard to test at wafer level.
