How is data read from MRAM?

  1. AA small current is passed through the MTJ and its high or low resistance is detected
  2. BA strong magnetic field is applied and the response observed
  3. CLight is shone on it and the reflection measured
Show answer and explanation

Answer: A. A small current is passed through the MTJ and its high or low resistance is detected

In MRAM, a current smaller than the write current is passed through the MTJ, and whether the magnetizations of the two magnetic layers are parallel (low resistance) or antiparallel (high resistance) is detected as a difference in current or voltage. The read is non-destructive and does not reverse the magnetization, so no rewrite is needed afterward.
