What is Reactance?
The imaginary part of impedance: how strongly a coil or capacitor opposes an AC current [Ω]. A coil has XL = ωL = 2πfL, which grows in proportion to frequency, and a capacitor has XC = 1/(ωC) = 1/(2πfC), which shrinks in inverse proportion to frequency. For example, a 1 µF capacitor has about 159 Ω at 1 kHz. Unlike resistance it consumes no power, and it shifts the phase between voltage and current by 90°.
