What is Preprocessor?

The processing (or the program that performs it) that transforms C source files at the text level before compilation. It treats lines beginning with # as directives: #include pulls in the contents of header files, #define macros are expanded, and #if, #ifdef and #ifndef remove parts whose conditions are not met (conditional compilation). Include guards, which prevent a header from being included twice, also combine #ifndef and #define. With gcc, the -E option shows the source after preprocessing.
